Medical Travel Insurance

If you travel in different countries for business purposes, then don not forget to buy a Medical Travel Insurance. Medical travel insurance is offered by many insurance companies in all over the world. While choosing Medical Travel Insurance, be sure to check the details of the concerned insurance company.

Before buying medical travel insurance, you should know that the money you pay as your premium is combined with the premiums of others to form a pool of money. That money is then used to pay the medical bills of participants who need health care. Your coverage remains valid only as long as you continue to pay your premiums. Once you have purchased insurance, the insurance company will give you an insurance identification card for you to use when you seek care from a hospital or doctor.

When you have purchased Medical Travel Insurance, the insurance company will provide you written instructions for reporting and documenting medical expenses. The insurance company will examine the entire claims made by you and make the appropriate payment under your policy. In some cases it may happen that the insurance company pays the hospital or doctor directly or in others the company will reimburse you after you have paid the bills.

Factors that you should keep in mind while purchasing Medical Travel Insurance:

  • The reliability of the insurance company - how the company deal with its policy holders
  • Deductible amounts - Most insurance policies require you to cover part of your health expenses yourself before the company pays anything. Under some policies the deductible is annual, and you pay only once each year if you use the insurance.
  • Co-insurance or co-payment - Usually, even after you have paid the deductible, an insurance policy pays only a percentage of your medical expenses. The policy might pay 80 percent, for example; the remaining 20 percent, for which you are responsible, is called the coinsurance or co-payment.
  • Specific limits - Some policies state specific currency limits on what they will pay for particular services.
  • Lifetime or per-occurrence maximums - Many insurance policies limit the amount they will pay for any single individual's medical bills or for any specific illness or injury.
  • Benefit period - Some insurance policies limit the amount of time they will go on paying for each illness or injury.
