Being the eighth largest country of the world, Argentina covers an area of nearly 2.8 million sq. kms. Some of the world's tallest mountain ranges, unrestrained deserts and impressive waterfalls belong to this country that has a lot of diversity in the landforms.
Argentina can be geographically divided into six portions namely Cuyo and Andean Northwest, Mesopotamia and the Northeast, The Chaco, The Pampas, Patagonia and Lake District and Tierra Del Fuego.
Prone to volcanic eruptions and salt lakes, Cuyo and Andean Northwest was once a Peru colony but now only a few miners and herders inhabit this place. Inspite of the fertile river valleys and subtropical lowlands in the east, this area receives very little rainfall. A broad flat plain between the rivers Parana and Uruguay, Mesopotamia and the Northeast is a wet, swampy and hot place to dwell in. It has dense forests and a section of Iguazu falls. The Chaco lies in the western part and is a parched land. It has both grasslands and thorny forests. The Pampas are the most fertile region in Argentina. It consists of the Humid Pampas along the seaboard and the Dry Pampas in the west and south. Patagonia holds vast reserves of oil and coal and experiences a desert climate. The climate at Tierra Del Fuego is mild and is frequent to storms.
