San Juan that was founded in the year 1521 is also known as La Ciudad Amurallada meaning a walled city. In the year 1508, Juan Ponce de León founded the original settlement, Caparra that is now known as Pueblo Viejo. After a year, this place was abandoned and the population was moved to Old San Juan.
