The Rano Raraku Volcano:
The Rano Raraku Volcano, located to the Northeast of Hanga Roa, is one of the greatest and most valuable archaeological sites of the island. Its quarry was once used to carve the statues before they were taken to their final position. Over 300 statues in varying states of completion can be seen around the place. A look at these can give us an idea of how they were made.
Rano Kau:
Mystic moai and the beauty of this crater make it one of the most scenic and fascinating places on the island. The Pacific Ocean is visible through the far rim of the crater.
Anakena Beach:
Hotu Matua, the founder of Rapa Nui, landed at this place. This beach is relatively safer for swimming than the other ones on the island. The moai in the center are Ahu Nau Nau, of which four are in good shape complete with topknots.The Tahitian palm trees make it a very pleasant area. It is a popular picnic spot.
Ahu Tongariki:
The stunning Ahu Tongariki is on the east side of the island. The 15 moai were restored in the early 1990's, which had been damaged due to earthquake and tsunami in early 1960's.

These seven moai are the only ones to face outwards towards the ocean They are said to represent Hotu Matua, the founder of the Rapa Nui, and his six sons.Their face is towards their native land, Tahiti.
The Annual Tapati Festival:
Performaces of native dance, chant and song and competitions in horse racing, woodcarving, fishing, traditional body decoration, a parade, and a queen contest form this two week long festival held at the end of Febuary. There are both indoor and outdoor performances. "Dance-drama" performances are also held. The parade occurs near the end of the festival. It comprises of singing and dancing people dressed in native dresses and queen contestants travelling in decorated floats. The queen is crowned amidst chanting and singing at the archaeological site of Tahai.
There is also good fishing, scuba exploration, caving, horseback riding and extensive hiking available.
