Museo Chileno de Arte Precolumbino
Relics of 4500 years of pre-Columbian civilization, breathtaking figurative ceramics and intrinsic textile works are displayed in this museum. Most of the items come from the personal collections of the Larrain family, but special exhibits run from time to time. There are separate halls for Mexico and Central America, Peru and Bolivia, Columbia and Ecuador, modern Chile and Argentina. The museam also has a good gift shop and a café.
Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende(art gallery and museum)
This museum is housed in an old mansion with a pretty courtyard. The exhibits were gifts from artists who supported the socialist Allende government. Among the exhibits there are works by Matta, Tapies, Miro, Calder and Yoko Ono. After the 1973 coup, the entire collection was kept in the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo for 17 years, awaiting the return of civilian rule. The sculptures and paintings are not very political. The museam also includes a multimedia station for viewing films about the history of the Allende government and the Unidad Popular.
Cerro San Cristibal
Cerro San Cristibal is a hill situated 860 m above the rest of Santiago. Its peak is the highest point in the city. At the peak there is a church with an amphitheatre and a 22m statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. At its foothills is the Metropolitan Zoo. The spot is a superb location from which to view the city.
Parque Metropolitano
Parque Metropolitano is central Santiago's largest open space and is frequenty visited by cyclists, joggers and walkers. There is a statue of the Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción in the park. You can enjoy the breathtaking views, lovely gardens, nearby swimming pools and the zoo.
