Located on central Cairo square, Cairo Museum was first built in Boulak. It was built in 1857 during the reign of Khedive Abbass Helmi II. Cairo Museum houses a rich collection of antique objects from the tomb of Tutankhamun. Apart from Tutankhamun's funerary mask, which is studded with semi precious stone, faience and glass, Cairo Museum is full of many other amazing artifacts. Alabaster carvings, Jewellery from mummy and gold sandals, Golden Chariot, Ebony Leopard and Anubis Statue are some of the popular Tutankhamuns artifacts resting in Cairo Museum.
During your visit don't forget to see the 'Object of the Month' and just behind it, you will get to see the most important items from the time of the unification of the Upper and Lower Egypt dating some 5, 000 years ago. Cairo Museum is also famous for its rich collection of Royal Mummies. However, besides all these glorious artifacts, Cairo Museum needs to be restored in proper manner. It has been noticed that some of the exhibits are not even having any labels.
It is advisable for those who are going to visit the Cairo Museum for the first time not to see all the artifacts in the museum on just one visit. The reason behind this advice is that after seeing all these artifacts in a single day, you wont be able to remember a single artifact. In order to have long lasting memories, it would be better if you could visit Cairo Museum twice during your Egypt tour.
