Tallinn
Tallinn is a city in the whole of Europe where the aura and sensation of the 14th and 15th centuries still survives. It is as intact as it was in those ancient times. Tallinn's old town is a mishmash of chivalric walls and towers and paved streets. All the same, this capital of Estonia is so contemporary; it is been dubbed as the suburb of Helsinki.
Toompea dwells a multitude of attractive sights, which include the Lutheran cathedral Toomkirik, the 19th-century Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, the Estonian Art Museum and Kiek-in-de-Kök, a tall and solid tower built in 1475.
Tallinn is no doubt the one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the north Europe. The city of today has become an important port on the Gulf of Finland and a well-liked stoppage for cruise ships. | You can take your tour to Estonia either through a guided bus or on a horse-driven carriage ride all along the slender and paved streets of Old Town to get a round around the city.
A must see of Tallinn is the well-preserved 15th-century Guild House and its Great Guildhall. Also, there is the Olaeviste Church, Fat Margaret, which is the widest defense tower in the city walls and Tall Hermann that is the city's highest defense tower.
Nearby is the Pirita Beach that has one of the nice views of the Gulf of Finland. Kloogaranna is one of the unspoiled beaches in Estonia and the Rebala Farming History Reserve. There is also the most interesting sight, which houses the Sliding Rocks. A story is famous here that the women who slide bare bottomed down the rocks will be cured of infertility.
Tartu
If Tallinn is Estonia's political and medieval capital, then Tartu is Estonia's intellectual capital. It is the University Town and second city of Estonia. Tartu's attraction lies in its relaxedness, down-to-earth spirit, and more reasonable than its loud rivals.
Tartu is listed amongst the oldest university towns in Europe. Opened by Swedish King Gustavus II Adolphus the Academia Gustaviana in 1632, it has made many of the Estonia´s VIPs study here. Thousands of students are currently enrolled at the university, from all round the world. And, this fact influences the life and culture of Tartu, heavily.
Tartu is an important place for Estonia, as this is where Estonia gained its statehood. In Tartu only Estonia signed the Peace Treaty with Soviet Russia in 1920. Russia surrendered the territorial claims on Estonia forever. Tartu is a great place to walk at peace on its paths and bridges, to enjoy a drink or a coffee in the lovely pub and also to holiday at the museums and galleries and feel within you the peaceful pulse of the university town of Tartu.
Pärnu
