Kauai

Kauai is one of the oldest islands in Hawaii. This region is also known as the "garden isle". It is positioned 105 miles across Kauai channel. This is located at the north western part of Oahu. The highest peak in the region is Kawaikini followed by Mount Waialeale.

It was in 1810 that Kauai became a part of Hawaii. During the rule of the king Kamehameha in Hawaii it was only the islands of Ni'ihau and Kauai that had not joined his kingdom. The ruler of Kauai, Kaumualii resisted the former for a long time but to no avail. He joined the kingdom of Hawaii in 1810.

Kauai is a very well known land and has featured in many Hollywood movies and shows. Some of the films are: Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Six Days Seven Nights, King Kong, Donovan's Reefland, and Blue Hawaii. One of the most popular sites for films is the coco palms resort. Many films have been shot here.

There are many places of interest in Kauai. These are:

Alakai wilderness area- This is a rainforest close to Mount Waialeale. The Alakai swap trail is most of the time covered in mist and clouds. When you travel to the end of the trail you would be able to get an enchanting view of the Hanalei Bay and the many beautiful waterfalls.

Allerton garden- This is a famous botanical garden in the island. You can see the Bamboo garden, Cutting garden, Diana fountain, Mermaid fountain, Moreton bay fig trees, Tropical fruit orchard and three beautiful pools while you are here.

Iraivan temple- This is a beautiful temple that is situated near the Waialua River. This is a stone carved temple and has lasted for ten centuries.

Hanalei bay- This is another place where you can go. There are stretches of beautiful beaches and there are magnificent mountains that form the backdrop of the region.

Koke state park- This is another place that you can go to. You would be able to see a wide range of plant and animal species while you are here. You would also be able to see some wonderful scenic Cliffside views. There are also many walking trails in the region.
