Food of Malaysia

Malaysia is a country celebrated for its multiculturalism; here people of different race, religion and country live in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. The multiculturalism of the country is evident in the food of the country. Food of Malaysia is variegated and eclectic; here you will find everything form spicy Malay food, and Chinese food to Indian, Nyonya and Portuguese food. You can also avail Western cuisine in the country. Eating out in Malaysia therefore can be best described as a gastronomic adventure.

In Malaysia there is no dearth of restaurants, there are Malay, Thai, Chinese and Indian restaurants. There are many restaurants in the country where you can have a taste of the traditional Malay cuisine. Traditional Malay food is highly inspired by the cuisine of neighboring countries; it is generally spicy and flavored. Some of the popular Malaysian delicacies are satay, nasi lemak, rendang, roti canai, murtabak, laksa, chicken rice, and fried noodles.

There are also a number of restaurants that offers a variety of Chinese dishes like steamed seafood dumplings with shark's fin, steamed soft noodles with shrimps, steamed crabsticks stuffed with fish paste, deep-fried dumplings with salted eggs and red bean paste.

Malaysia boasts of a large Indian population in the country and consequently there are numerous restaurants dedicated to Indian foods. Indian foods are all about spices and variety. The restaurants here offer you a wide range of Indian dishes that includes North Indian and South Indian dishes.

Some of the restaurants also offer Nyonya food often dubbed as Straits Chinese food or Lauk Embok Embok. It is basically a blend of Chinese and Malay cuisine.

Any country is incomplete with roadside fast food shops and Malaysia, in addition to the restaurants, is also home to some of the international fast food chains along with innumerable road side food stalls and food bazaars. Infact hawkers selling variety of foods, drinks and fruits have become an integral aspect of the country and especially on Penang Island.
