Perak Tong is situated in Gunung Nasek which lies 6km North of Ipoh on the main trunk road in Perak. The Perak Tong is a popular tourist destination and a historical destination near the town of Ipoh.
To the North of Ipoh lie a number of huge limestone caves which were places of meditation for the Buddhist monks about two centuries ago. The Perak Tong Temple is located in one such cave. The temple leads to caverns and grottoes with statues and paintings of the Buddha set in nooks.
The main attraction of the Perak Tong Temple is a 12.8m high sitting Buddha which is the tallest and largest of its kind in Malaysia. There is passage which leads you in to the interior of the caves and after a steep climb of about 385 steps it opens in to a ledge. This ledge offers fantastic views of the country side. A café is also located here that serves excellent vegetarian food.
