The Pan-American Highway is an excellent network of roads, covering 15 nations across the Americas in its entire 48,000 km (29,800 miles) long route. Pan American Highway starts in Fairbanks in Alaska and ends in Quellón in Chile, South America, with just a 87 km Darien Gap- a lush rainforest region along the border of Colombia and Panama. Since the highway passes through many countries, it is far from uniform.
The Pan-American Highway is the main road network in Peru, running along its entire 2,000 km long coastline. It also connects Ecuador to Chile and is the main route into the Andes. Much of the Pan-American Highway that connects Ecuador to Chile via Peru is in good condition. In Peru, the Pan-American Highway starts in Tumbes region in the north, near the border with Ecuador, and travels through Trujillo, Lima, Nazca, Arequipa ending in the Tacna region at the border with Chile. The Peruvian cities of Cusco and Puno can also be reached by Pan-American Highway, though they don't lie on the main route.
