Manu National Park

Located amidst lush Amazon rainforest in southeastern Peru, the Manu National Park is the largest rainforest reserve in Peru. On of the top attractions in Peru, the Manu National Park is known worldwide for its unique and rich biodiversity. Covering an area of over 20,000 sq km (7,722 sq miles), the Manu National Park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, along with many native tribes, who still practice the centuries old customs and traditions of their ancestors. The area was declared a National Park in 1973 in order to protect its great diversity of flora and fauna and its expansive pristine areas. Later, it was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1977 and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site in 1987.

The Manu National Park is home to about 200 species of mammals, 850 species of birds, 1,200 species of butterflies, and over 2,000 species of plants. Among commonly seen primate groups in the Manu National Park include Emperor Tamarins (known for their long white mustache), Spiders, Howler Monkeys, Tapirs, Sloth and Jaguars.
