The Nazca Lines are huge geoglyphs in the Nazca Desert, located between the towns of Nazca and Palpa, some 400 km South of Lima, the capital of Peru. Believed to be created between 200 BC and 600 AD, the Nazca Lines are truly an enigma, as no one has proof who built them or why. Spread over an area of approx. 450 sq km in the sandy desert as well as the slopes of the Andes, there are about 300 hundred figures, ranging in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, and lizards. If you're planning an adventure trip in Peru, then flying over the Nazca Lines can be a lifetime expereince.
The coherent figures of Nazca Lines can only be seen from the air, and so it's presumed the Nazca people could never have seen their work. The figures of ancient gods, a landing strip for returning aliens, and a celestial calendar are truly mysterious, and there are several questions regarding their origin. The greatest mysteries of Nazca Lines are that how the creators were able to measure them with such perfection (as there was no airplane at that time), and how long it took to create them. According to scientists, the lines still exist due to the dry, windless, and constant climate of the Nazca region, and the lack of wind in the desert has helped these lines survived even today.
