There are primarily two international airports in Bangkok, the Don Mueang International Airport and the Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The Mueang International Airport is no longer functional, and the Suvarnabhumi International Airport is now the main international and domestic airport of Bangkok.
The Don Mueang International Airport was Bangkok's main airport since 1914. It was one of the most used airports in Asia till September 27 when the final flight took off from Don Mueang International Airport before moved to the Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The airport was the centre of most international flights taking off and landing in Bangkok. It was quite a large airport with even a golf course situated in between the runways! The airport is not used anymore commercially; but it continues to be used for charter flights, and is also used as an aircraft maintenance centre.
Bangkok's new international airport is called the Suvarnabhumi International Airport. One of Asia's largest airports, the airport has a steady flow of domestic and international flights. It was built with approximately 3 million US dollars and is capable of managing 45 million passengers annually. This airport in Bangkok took almost 40 years to complete and today in its functional mode it is a sight to behold.
