Rail Travel in Thailand

Rail travel in Thailand has become quite popular these days and owing to the many trains available and the good service. A well-organized railway link connects major northern and northeastern cities and towns to Bangkok. First, second and third class compartments are found in the domestic express trains. However only third class facilities are available in some local slow trains.

Apart from the domestic rail services, rail travel in Thailand also extends internally with trains connecting the country to Malaysia and Singapore. This is very cheap mode of transport. However, it is quite time consuming and a train ride to Singapore can take 2 days while a plane will take you there in just 2 hours. The Eastern & Oriental Express is a super deluxe train that offers brilliant facilities and takes the passengers on a luxurious journey. It is a lot more expensive than the ordinary train and runs just once a week.

Rail travel in Thailand can be very interesting. The ride can be both comfortable and also very fulfilling. This is because in the course of the journey you will be able to see many rural towns and villages of Thailand in addition to the big cities. The State Railway of Thailand arranges short, inexpensive trips to different destinations on weekends and holidays. These include trips to Chiang Mai Surat Thani, and Chumphon. \
