The parents of the bride to be perform an age old custom. Before the daughter leaves for the church to be married, the mother of the bride gives her a gold coin to be placed in her right shoe and the father gives her a silver coin to be placed in her left shoe. After the Swedish couple exchanges their marriage vows on the wedding day, the new bride wears three gold rings on her fingers. A Swedish girl receives a ring during her engagement.
