There are eighty six winter sports events at 2010 Winter Games. These events are subdivided into the categories of ice sports, alpine sports, Nordic sports, freestyle and snowboarding. They will all be held in Vancouver and Whistler. A number of events have been added and eliminated from the Winter Olympic fixtures over the years. The present list of the events, along with the category, is given below:

All ice sports events of 2010 Winter Olympics, with the exception of bobsleigh, skeleton and luge, will be held in Vancouver and Richmond. Callaghan Valley, to the west of Whistler, will play host to the Nordic events. The alpine skiing events will be held on Whistler Mountain in Creekside, while all sliding events like bobsleigh, skeleton and luge will be held in the Blackcomb Mountain. The freestyle skiing events and all 2010 snowboard events will be held in the Cypress Mountain.
Both men’s and women’s ice hockey events in Vancouver 2010 will be held in ice rinks built according to NHL specifications. It will, for the first time, replace rinks built according to international specifications. Ski cross will, for the first time, be included as an official event in 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. The decision to include this as an event was taken at the meeting of the IOC Executive Board at Kuwait on November 28, 2006.
