Non Competition Venues of Winter Olympics 2010

The Non Competition Venues of Winter Olympics 2010 will be used by Vancouver Organizing Committee and its partners for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC). These non sporting venues include media centers, athlete housing, storage facilities and parking lots.

The Non Competition Venues of Winter Olympics 2010 are –

BC Place, Vancouver – The venue will be hosting the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the XXI Olympic Winter Games and the Opening Ceremony for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games. Nightly Victory Ceremonies presentations will also be held here. It has a seating capacity of 55,000 spectators. The venue has the largest air-supported stadium roof in North America. It is located on the north side of False Creek in the Canadian city of Vancouver. BC Place is home to the Canadian Football League's B.C. Lions since 1983. It was constructed for the 1986 World's Fair, Expo 86. It is owned and operated by PavCo (BC Pavilion Corporation), a Crown Corporation of the British Columbia provincial government.

Main Media Center, Vancouver- It is one of the important non sporting venues of the XXI Olympic Winter Games. It will be located in the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre (VCEC) on the city’s downtown waterfront. The media center will host the International Broadcast Centre and the Main Press Centre. It will be spread over 59,000 square meters of area. The venue will be a common location for press and broadcasters. It will accommodate 2,800 accredited members from the various media. 7,000 accredited technicians and broadcasters will work and produce live television and radio coverage in the International Broadcast Centre.

Olympic and Paralympic Village, Vancouver – The village is situated on the southeast side of False Creek. It has excellent views of the North Shore Mountains and the Vancouver skyline. The village will feature sustainable housing with apartments and town homes. It is adjacent to the downtown and close to the city’s shopping and entertainment districts as well as other games venues.

Olympic and Paralympic Village, Whistler- It is located in the picturesque Cheakamus Valley at the southern entrance of the town of Whistler. The village’s housing is a mixture of town homes, apartments and hostel accommodation. It is close to all the major Games sites and town attraction.

Whistler Media Center – The center will be situated in the Whistler Conference Centre. The conference center is again located at the heart of the town of Whistler. All the competition venues in Whistler are within 17 kilometers of the center. It will be the main point of media transportation and an important point between Whistler and the Main Media Center, Vancouver.

Whistler Olympic Celebration Plaza – It is one of the important Non Competition Venues of Winter Olympics 2010. This outdoor celebration plaza will be situated in the centre of Whistler town. Nightly Victory Ceremonies presentations will be held here. Nearly 8,000 spectators can be accommodated here. It will also host the Paralympic Winter Games Closing Ceremony.
