Richmond Olympic Oval

Situated on the banks of the Fraser River, at a distance of about 14 kilometers from the city of Vancouver, the Richmond Olympic Oval is one of those prized spots for hosting some of the events of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The place is fairly large with a seating capacity of 8,000 and will host one of the most popular events of the Winter Games next year – the speed skating competitions. The venue has its own advantages for being near to the Vancouver International Airport, at a short distance, just northwest of Richmond.

The Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee, that is the VANOC invested a fairly large amount of 63.3 million for the construction project of the Richmond Olympic Oval that commenced long back in September 2005. The Richmond Olympic Oval construction project has been a long term issue and a significant undertaking for both the governments of Canada and British Columbia. The construction plan is unique and holds the requisition of an attractive waterfront plaza and a fantastic public park. Further, most importantly, the Richmond Olympic Venue has been proposed to be one of the featured public sites of interest after the games, offering quite a handful of community recreational outlets like 200 meter long running track, a spacious multi-amenity fitness center covering an area of 2300 square feet and a number of residential quarters equipped with premier quality facility and support.

There are indeed a number of sustainable attributes associated with this fascinating Richmond Winter Olympic venue. These include the review process of the Federal environmental assessment program, implementation of the LEED Silver certification and the long term planning of a multi-equipped recreational and cultural complex. The other sustainable features that are taken into consideration in the Richmond Olympic Oval construction site constitutes a refrigeration plant for waste heat recovery, a tree planting and beautification initiative for perfectly maintaining the environmental balance as per the world health standards. Apart from all these sustainable benefits, new initiatives at the Richmond Olympic Oval include a storm water management project dealing with an excellent on site water collection and treatment plant for irrigation and sanitation purpose.
