The Vancouver Olympic Center has been selected as one of the venues of the Winter Olympics, 2010. Located near the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Park, this place offers an enchanting view of the surrounding mountains.
The Vancouver Olympic Centre can accommodate approximately 6000 people at a time. The elevation is about 74 meters. The construction of this curling venue was initiated in 2007, in the month of March. The construction of this centre is due to be completed by the end of 2008.
The Vancouver Olympic Centre is actually situated in the Riley-Hillcrest neighborhood. Besides providing excellent sports facilities, namely curling, the beautification of the premises is also a part of the construction agenda. The new Percy Norman Pool will be an added attribute of the centre. An indoor forecourt will be constructed for connecting the new pool with the facilities.
After construction, the Vancouver Olympic Centre can easily boast of having a space of 100,000 square feet (9290 square meters) which is quite appropriate for curling competition. Interestingly, the Percy Norman Aquatic Center covers an area of 60,000 square feet or 5,574 square meters.
After the 2010 Winter Games are over, Vancouver Olympic Centre will be used as a multi-purpose community center for the purpose of recreation. This will include ice hockey rink, library, gymnasium, six to eight sheets of curling ice. After the games are over, the venue will be managed by Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation.
