There are several sand beaches located just a five minute walk north of Kailua Town beyond Honokohau Marina. Honokaa is a quiet secluded beach popular with nudists and has an interesting ancient Hawaiian temple partly submerged in water. You can walk for almost a mile along the coast here and find natural swimming pools and tiny green turtles scattered around.
Just after the airport, are numerous attractive beaches but Travour would take this opportunity to forewarn you that neither of them happen to be safe for swimming. Pine Trees is well known for its wild waters and surfing, whilst Kona Hawaii Beach especially it's State Park are relatively tranquil and is a fishing hotspot for locals and tourists- and make relaxing beach strolls.
